When cities overheat, Eltrode brings the chill

Powered by CHP50.2 inverter heat pump - 100% electric - zero emissions

Extreme heat is Europe's deadliest natural hazard. In 2023 alone, over 47,000 people died fromheat-related causes across the continent. Cities like Milan, Rome, Paris, Madrid and Athens areexperiencing increasingly frequent and intense heat waves, with temperatures regularly exceedingca 40 degrees C.

"The most vulnerable -- the elderly, young children, people with chronic illnesses and outdoor workers -- often lack access to adequate cooling. Cities need deployable, emission-free cooling infrastructure that can be activated within hours."

What cities need right now

Rapid deployment heat waves strike with short notice
Large capacity hundreds of people need cooling daily
Sustainable fossil-free solutions are mandated by EU and municipal policy
Mobile relocatable to where the need is greatest
Turnkey no specialist installation or infrastructure required

COOL AID Emergency Cooling Shelter

COOL AID is a turnkey, rapidly deployable cooling shelter designed to protect citizens during extreme heat events. Municipalities, cities and relief organisations can set up a 200 m2 climate-controlled tent with seating and rest areas -- powered by Eltrode's emission-free CHP50.2 heat pumps in cooling mode.

"When Milan hits 42 degrees C, the city opens a COOL AID shelter in thepark. Citizens walk in, sit down and breathe easy at a comfortable 22 degrees C. Zero emissions. Zero diesel. Just clean, cool air from the North."

Technical setup

The COOL AID Standard configuration provides comfortable cooling for up to 60 people in a 200 m2 tent structure. Two CHP50.2 units deliver 76 kW of combined cooling capacity with full redundancy. The system is fully scalable -- add more units and tent sections to protect 120, 240 or more people.
Component Specification
Tent structure 200 m2 (e.g. 10 x 20 m), insulated white fabric, UV-reflective
Heat pumps 2 x Eltrode CHP50.2 in cooling mode
Cooling capacity 2 x 38 kW = 76 kW total cooling
Air volume 2 x 10,500 m3/h = 21,000 m3/h total
Indoor temperature 20–24 C (adjustable via app or on-unit display)
Capacity (people) 60 seated (scalable: 120 with 4 units, 240+ with 8 units)
Setup time Under 4 hours (tent + connection)
Power supply 2 x 32A 400V CEE (standard industrial power)
Power consumption 2 x 11–14 kW = 22–28 kW total
Operating temperature Up to ca 40 C outdoor
Emissions 0 g CO2 (when connected to green grid)
Noise level 65 dB(A) -- comfortable for a rest area
Control Built-in on-unit display + remote app/PC/tablet with 4G

Why 2 x CHP50.2?

A 200 m2 tent with approximately 60 people in ca 40 C summer heat generates a cooling load of around 60-75 kW (solar radiation through tent fabric + body heat + entrance openings). Two CHP50.2 units provide:
76 kW cooling Sufficient capacity with a comfortable margin
Redundancy Operations continue even if one unit requires servicing
Even distribution Cool air delivered from both sides of the tent
COP 4.8+ Delivers nearly 5x more energy than consumed

FAQ

How does an Eltrode heat pump work?
Warm, clean and dry air is sent into the lower part of the building via the green hose. Air circulates and returns via the blue hose, continuously removing moisture and replacing it with warm, dry air — 24/7 at 10,500 m³ per hour. The unit is placed outside, meaning zero indoor noise.
How much can I save on electricity?
At €0.18/kWh, a single unit can save over €100 per day compared to standard electric heating. The heat pump uses 1 kWh of electricity but delivers 3–4 kWh of equivalent heat — meaning 3–4 times less electricity consumption than conventional heating.
What temperatures can the heat pump operate in?
Eltrode heat pumps are built for Nordic conditions and operate reliably from -30°C to +40°C, making them suitable for year-round use on demanding construction sites.
Can it heat, cool and dry — all in one unit?
Yes. The CHP 50.2 delivers up to 50.2 kW of heating, 38 kW of cooling capacity and effective construction drying — all from a single mobile unit. Switch between heating and cooling mode as needed.
How long does installation take?
Approximately 2 hours. The units are delivered with flexible hoses, quick connectors and zipper connections, making setup fast and straightforward with no specialist tools required.
Can I monitor and control the unit remotely?
Yes. Every unit comes with a digital dashboard accessible via PC, phone or tablet. You get real-time monitoring of temperature, humidity, COP and power consumption, plus fault alerts and 24/7 remote temperature control via 4G.
Is it suitable as a permanent heat source?
Absolutely. Eltrode heat pumps are ideal for commercial buildings, warehouses, sports halls, workshops and shipyards — not just temporary construction use. 100% emission-free, self-cleaning, and with minimal maintenance requirements.
Who is Eltrode?
Eltrode is a Norwegian-owned company established in 2016, with the most extensive documented experience with portable heat pumps in Scandinavia. Specialising in air-to-air heat pumps adapted to Nordic conditions, with an in-house service company ensuring professional follow-up and maintenance.
